Course overview
乾 (Qián): The Creative Force is the first of the eight trigrams we’ll study.It is one of the eight primary trigrams in the Yi Jing (I Ching) and represents the pure energy of yang.  

Composed of three unbroken lines (☰), Qián symbolizes heaven (天, Tiān), the celestial realm, and the initiating power of creation.

Qián’s unbroken lines reflect wholeness and perfection, symbolizing the dynamic and forward-moving energy of the universe.
In addition to Dao talks, scriptural work, mystical study (玄学 xuan xue) and meditation, this year’s monthly Daoist training will focus on the Book of Changes (一经 Yi Jing).

The Yi Jing, or Book of Changes, is a revered Chinese divination text that offers wisdom bridging spiritual, philosophical, and practical realms through its eight symbolic trigrams. By exploring the teachings of the Yi Jing, seekers can harness ancient wisdom for personal growth, decision-making, and spiritual enrichment.

☰ Heaven (乾 Qián)

Qián teaches that success and progress arise from aligning with the natural order and acting with clarity, purpose, and integrity.

As the first hexagram in the Yi Jing, Qián underscores the principles of initiative, resilience, and harmony with the Dao (道).

In divination, Qián signifies new beginnings, favorable conditions, and the potential for achievement. It encourages individuals to take the lead, act decisively, and embody virtues like perseverance and self-discipline. However, it also warns against arrogance, urging balance to avoid the excesses of unchecked yang energy.

Qián inspires us to harness our creative potential and align with the ceaseless flow of life. It reminds us that true strength lies in consistent effort and harmonizing with the universal forces that sustain and guide all existence.
